Easter, Done Properly: Three Farm Shops, For a Very Good Day Out

The Lowdown:

Easter weekend tends to come with a long list of expectations — egg hunts, outings and plans to fill the days with children and visiting friends and family. But the places you actually want to go are the ones where none of that feels forced.

Think out in nature, excellent food and produce, space to roam — whether through orchards or past farm animals — and just enough going on to keep children happily occupied, while you delight in all the artisanal and delicious springtime offerings. These are the farm shops worth driving out to this Easter, where the balance feels just right.

Hoeve Ravenstein

Set on a working farm just 30 minutes from Amsterdam, Hoeve Ravenstein feels a world away from the Netherlands’ more industrial farming landscape. Here, everything comes with a little more polish — think picturesque, traditional and a little bit smart…for a farm.

At Easter, it all comes into its own: seasonal produce to browse, newborn animals to admire and a chick scavenger hunt that gives younger visitors the opportunity to play detective across the estate. Alongside the beautifully curated farm shop, there’s an ever-charming barn café, known for its abundance of excellent freshly made bakes.

It’s easy to see why it’s a firm favourite with families — animals to visit, forested grounds to explore and even a castle and nature playground just next door.

You’ll leave with a boot full of excellent produce — and children who are already asking when they can come back.

Lindenhoff

At Lindenhoff, the traditional farm shop is reimagined into something far more elevated. Just a stone’s throw from Amsterdam, you’ll find produce at its best — beautifully displayed and thoughtfully sourced.

It’s long been a favourite for those in the know — and if it’s not already on your radar, consider this your introduction..

Over Easter weekend, their much-loved Marché returns, bringing together a carefully curated selection of seasonal producers alongside the farm’s own exceptional offerings. Expect everything you might need for a standout Easter table — though not before a stop at their delightful glasshouse café for something fresh, seasonal and well, delicious.

Despite the shop’s more refined feel, it remains an easy choice with children in tow: chickens roam freely, lambs, pigs and other animals draw quiet (or not so quiet) fascination and there’s just enough space (and a small outdoor play area) to keep everyone content while you browse.

Lindenhoff is really one to know — especially this weekend.

Fruittuin van West

To the west of the city, this charming orchard‑farm feels like a little countryside oasis, even though its technically still in Amsterdam. At its heart is a lovely organic shop, always brimming with carefully sourced seasonal fruit and vegetables and the Garden Café, both of which offer fresh, organic or biodynamic treats. Enjoy a slice of homemade apple cake (apples picked straight from their own trees) or simply sit and soak in the spring air staring out across the orchard.

Over the Easter weekend, Fruittuin van West really comes alive and is perfect for a fun outing with children, families can join a farm bingo/scavenger hunt through the orchard before getting to browse the finest seasonal produce.

Pack your wellies (no really) and lose yourself in cheerful spring vibes—whether you’re planning a weekend outdoor excursion, a relaxed lunch where little legs can run free, a quick shop for Easter lunch, or all of the above, Fruittuin van West is the perfect spot if you don’t want to venture far from home.
