WOPL: Where Playdates Get an Upgrade - and So Does Your Flat White
The Lowdown:
For us folk in Amsterdam Zuid, let’s be honest — when the colder months hit (yup they drag on don’t they), the options for inviting, local, spacious, indoor play are few and far between. Especially if you aren’t in the mood to cycle to the other side of town, or for a car trip around the A10. Finally, however, our calls have been answered - meet WOPL - and judging by the buzz, it’s clear we’ve all been waiting for something exactly like this. Because really, how has it taken this long for premium, design-led play spaces to hit this part of town?! The demand is real.
The Vibe:
Specifically designed for little ones up to eight, the team behind WOPL clearly know what they are doing and they know their audience. Think sleek, contemporary aesthetics meets serious sensory fun — a space that feels as appealing for grown-ups as it does for kids. There are three zones to explore — the World of Water, World of Building and World of Art — each cleverly designed to spark curiosity and keep small hands (and minds) busy. The minimalist design is a win too: calm, spacious and blissfully free from the usual sensory overload. You can actually see your kids and hear yourself think — hallelujah.
What are we Eating:
Once the little ones have burned off their energy in the play zones, head to the light-filled café — a total win for parents. Spacious, stylish and refreshingly zen (no sugar traps in sight — just a neat bowl of fruit on display, thank you very much). The menu’s spot-on too: think proper sourdough sandwiches, soup and the all-important tosti. There’s even a kids’ borrel with veggie sticks and hummus — because of course there is! Nab a window seat, sip your flat white and watch them play with magnetic play tiles in peace. Bliss.
Worth the Hype?
WOPL is a long overdue addition to the Amsterdam Zuid indoor play scene and it does not disappoint. With winter cabin fever in over drive about now, you know exactly where to go!
