New Arrival Restaurant Hendrik, Nails the Dining with Children Experience

The Lowdown

There’s a new, stylish and genuinely kid-friendly restaurant in town. For all of Amsterdam’s incredible dining options, finding somewhere you can eat with young children — without compromising on food, atmosphere or parental sanity — can still feel surprisingly elusive. Restaurant Hendrik understands this perfectly, striking that rare balance by not just tolerating children, but actively embracing them.

The Vibe

At Saturday lunchtime, expect plenty of fellow Amsterdam families with young children — always a reassuring sign. Inside, it’s English country-house chic with charming classic Dutch touches throughout. It’s also surprisingly spacious, well by Amsterdam standards!

What Are We Eating?

Hendrik is, at heart, a pancake restaurant — but calling it that feels like wildly underselling it. This is pancakes taken seriously and a menu that extends to elevated takes on classic Dutch favourites, alongside delicious soups and salads. Yes, the children’s pancakes are excellent, but this is no sticky-table, plastic-syrup bottle situation. At Hendrik, pancakes arrive with a beautifully ornate jug of house syrup, ready to be ladled on generously — because if you’re doing pancakes, you may as well do them properly!

No Boredom Here:

Restaurant Hendrik wins the award for Amsterdam’s most elegant kids play area. If Soho House designed a play area for tiny humans, this would be it!

Forget the usual sad corner with torn books and a random block or two — here, kids get their own stylish corridor stocked with traditional dolls, miniature furniture, and a chill-out nook. They have their own dedicated space… and zero chance of making a run for it. Win win!

Worth They Hype:

Warm, cozy, and effortlessly chic, Restaurant Hendrik hits the sweet spot: parents get to be grown-ups with a relaxed dining experience, kids get to munch on pancakes and enjoy their own stylish play area. It just leaves one question, with such a winning formula…‘Why haven’t more restaurants thought of this?’
